I work with teams, groups, organization and communities to ensure that high stakes meetings with individual, team and organizational success riding on the results, successfully achieve the desired outcome. As a certified professional facilitator, I focus on guiding the groups process by managing the information exchange, how the conversations proceed allowing the people involved to focus on the content achieving their desired destination.
The questions I hear most often during the Complimentary Consultation from potential clients are: “Why should I hire a professional facilitator?” “What are the benefits? What value do you provide and is it worth the investment?”
Let me offer some responses to those queries.
My unique combination of experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities have been utilized in a wide range of scenarios from assisting organizations make critical decisions, work through conflict and smooth difficult transitions to short/long term planning thereby maximizing the individual, the team and the organizations potential. For example, I have effectively provided my expertise to facilitate Change Management, Policy Development, and Strategic Planning initiatives, which make a positive influence on the teams, organizations or communities ability to achieve their goals.
One of my most recent contracts involved supporting a capital city’s during the course of its SAF/DL (Servicing Agreement Fees/Development Levy) Review and Final Phasing and Financing Plan project. This required my assisting a Project Team consisting of an inter-disciplinary team including engineering, environmental science, urban design and communication consultants as well as city professionals engage various stakeholders such as the Development Community, Business Community, Taxpayers and citizens. The goal of this engagement was to provide opportunities for dialogue between the various interested parties where they could provide their input, that it be understood and considered by the City. As the Facilitation Consultant I worked with the Team in the design, conducting and evaluating of the meetings and workshops with the stakeholders.
Thanks so much for your contributions to this project – your assistance in framing difficult subject matter, and conversations, was really valuable. Your unique knowledge, skills and abilities made all the difference as this round of engaging stakeholders was considerably less contentious than previous and very fruitful for all concerned.
Wishing you all the best…and look forward to a time when our paths may cross again.

No matter which way you look at it – meetings are a fact of life – like taxes. If poorly planned, conducted, documented and evaluated – meetings are very costly. If you had a dollar for every meeting in your organization you have had to endure where decisions were not made and/or followed through on, or when poor plans were made combined with a failure to execute, or when crucial information was shared but lost because it was not collected would you be: a Millionaire or a Billionaire or a Trillionaire? In the big scheme of things, when you factor in the direct and indirect costs of your meeting, hiring a facilitator is a great investment in securing a successful outcome.
When meetings are productive – better decisions that need to be made are generated with an action for implementation, or plans that need to be made are created with a corresponding Accountability Plan and executed or the information that needs to be gathered is collected in a usable format – then the organization will see a return on the investment.
Does your team/organization have regular (or irregular) meetings where the risk of conflict or actual conflict hampers the group from doing its work?
Do the strong personalities and content expert characters in your organizational meetings dominate the groups’ energy preventing the participants from dealing with the task at hand?
Consider using a professionally trained and certified group facilitator to help you plan, lead and energize your next meeting, event, workshop, retreat or conference? What do you have to lose – what your team and organization is doing now is not working well – how could using a professionally trained and certified group facilitator be any worse?
When I, an experienced, trained, certified professional group facilitator design, conduct, record and document meetings the benefits include:
- A clearer understanding of what the organization needs to achieve and a plan of how to achieve it resulting in meaningful resource (time, people, dollars, knowledge) management and an improvement to your bottom line
- Overcoming obstacles to progress caused by tensions between group members which improves team effectiveness, communication and buy in
- All the wisdom and knowledge is focused on the content while the facilitator has responsibility for the process resulting in engaged and motivated employees committed to achieving the identified outcomes
- A better understanding of the true root causes of your problems, balanced between fact and gut instinct improving team members understanding of different perspectives, identifying of common ground, and interactions
- Participants having had a positive experience feel progress is being made which results in a strong commitment to achieving the identified outcomes and increased completion rate of decisions and/or plans
- All participants have had a chance to contribute and have a clear understanding of their role in team = open, transparent process, improved team effectiveness, communication and buy in, improved accountability, improved levels of trust in leadership competence
- Modeling of meeting best practices for productive and cost effective events fosters a culture of organizational change around meeting effectiveness, greatly improved designing, conducting, documenting and evaluation of all organizations meeting.
